Open Source Forms

Français

Fluidly expanded from Skinner Releasing Technique (SRT), Open Source Forms (OSF) focuses on cross-fertilizations and deep commonalities of SRT and creative process: : shedding outer layers, finding primal energy, agility navigating subconscious realms, and imagery as powerful tool for transformation. It is guided by the philosophy that the source of creativity and wisdom is available in each of us.

Stephanie Skura instigated OSF in 2008 after 12 years as Skinner Releasing Institute core faculty working closely with SRT creator Joan Skinner, and decades of radical innovation as choreographer, performer, and teacher of improvisation and creative practice. The OSF “open source” system offers specific tools to access depth, courage, integration, presence and freedom in physical practice, while empowering participants to adapt these methods and discover their own.

This work celebrates diversity, collaboration, and individual creative empowerment: free of inhibition, accessing intuitive knowing, and inviting the mind to collaborate. A remarkably effective and revolutionary way of learning, the OSF approach can catalyze learning and transformation in many kinds of practices, in movement as well as healing, therapy, voice, acting, and other fields of learning and creation.

Since becoming certified in the first cohort of OSF teachers in 2010, I have used it as the main container of all aspects of my teaching practice; a practice that typically explores the integration of voice and movement as an expression of our full physicality, and which also draws from my studies with such influential sources as master vocal teachers Fides Krucker and Richard Armstrong, Ruth Zaporah’s Action Theater, and Emilie Conrad’s Continuum Movement (along with Continuum practitioners Kim Brodey and Linda Rabin).

Since 2012, I have worked alongside Stephanie Skura as faculty for the OSF Teacher Training Program. Participation in my workshops counts towards the pre-requisites required to pursue Teacher Training.

Specifically designed for those with a foundation in SRT and/or OSF, this intensive is a rare opportunity to deepen one’s practice through the more advanded material from the basic releasing work – week 2 & 3 – and to expand this into creative process. Each day will comprise a 2.5 hour releasing class, alternating daily betwen SRT and OSF, followed by a 75-minute integration of this material with improvisation, voice work, and writing and drawing practices.

In essence it is an advanced course: more an in-depth study than simply a series of classes. In order to begin an Open Source Forms Teacher Certification Program in Europe in 2017, we’re offering this workshop so enough people can complete the prerequisites for this rigorous & gratifying teacher training.

Of course if you’re not planning to do OSF Teacher Certification, you’re very welcome to join — & move deeper & farther on your path within this work.

Prerequisites for this workshop are having experienced at least a week of Open Source Forms or Skinner Releasing.
